ETM : Education Through Monuments

“A monument is not just a structure—it’s a story carved in stone.”

As part of the Education Through Monuments (ETM) initiative, students of Grade VII of Suncity School 37D visited the magnificent Humayun’s Tomb—a UNESCO World Heritage Site that brought textbook history to life in the most inspiring way.

At Humayun’s Tomb, Grade VII students engaged in integrated learning across subjects. In Social Science, they traced the monument’s connection to Emperor Akbar and Mughal architecture through a Heritage Timeline Trail. Math came alive as they identified geometric shapes, measured angles, and calculated the Charbagh garden’s area and perimeter.

Science activities included collecting soil samples from Humayun’s Tomb and their

analysis. Students also analysed the drainage system of the monument. Through art and culture, students sketched architectural features and explored the symbolism of paradise gardens. Language and ICT tasks involved writing interviews, creating brochures, and using Hindi vocabulary with Persian roots. They also studied conservation efforts by ASI and the Aga Khan Trust, linking the restoration work to Sustainable Development Goal 11.

More than just a field trip, this was a journey into the past—encouraging reflection on conservation, identity, and the importance of preserving our historical legacy. Students returned not just with facts, but with a deeper respect for India’s cultural roots.Don’t miss our photo gallery from the trip – our young explorers in action!
