Understanding Adolescence and the Growing-Up Process and addressing Adolescent Health Issues (AHI).
A webinar was organized by Suncity School, 37D, Gurgaon for the girls of Grades VI to IX. The guest for the session was, Dr. Tuhina Gupta, a Gynecologists and Laparoscopic surgeon. The Principal introduced Dr. Tuhina and handed over session to her. The session mainly dealt with the onset of puberty, the expected physiological and hormonal changes that manifest, the mensuration cycle and the myths that surround it and the manner of handling self was explained to the girls. Later, girls were encouraged to open up and ask their doubts. Many girls confidently questioned and Dr. Tuhina who answered all the questions to their satisfaction. Queries like, when do periods normally start, how to deal with mood swings during menstruation time, how to handle stains, how to play sports, is it safe to take medication when in pain, is irregularity normal etc. were some of the questions that patiently answered by Dr. Tuhina. The school counsellor Ms Urmila Agarwal ably supported the panelist and assured the students of her help. The session was well appreciated by the girls specially when many of them had acquired puberty during the lockdown and were worried about attending school on campus during the specific days.
